Once a forgotten relic of time, the Shops at Sharp End is giving new opportunities to local entrepreneurs.

The Columbia Housing Authoritys two housing projects will be on Kinney Point and Park Avenue.

The University of Central Missouri’s James C. Kirkpatrick Library and the UCM History Department are partnering to host "Boom! The Rise and Fall of Missouris Black Business District." This traveling exhibit is produced by the Missouri State Museum and inspired by the Missouri State Parks-produced booklet “The Business: African-American Business People from Missouri’s Past” and will be on display Jan. 31 to Feb. 29 in the JCKL Read and Relax area.

The task force will include 15 community members who will be announced Feb. 5.

The Shops at Sharp End offers a physical location for people trying to start a business. Its located at the corner of Walnut Street and Fifth Street in downtown Columbia, once the heart of the citys Black community.

The soft-opening phase started last Friday and Saturday, but Wednesday marked its first fully-operating day.

The City Council will consider extending closures for construction of a six-story building at Broadway and Tenth Street.
