Two fires burning in Siskiyou County this week prompted evacuations in communities southeast and east of Yreka.
Both the Lava Fire and the Tennant Fire grew overnight, fueled by high temperatures and low humidity levels, dry fuels like brush and winds blowing through the valley.
Those conditions expected to last throughout the week, rugged terrain and lack of water in the immediate vicinity are making firefighting efforts more difficult.
