oil containment boom. that s 2500 feet of 42-inch boom that you see up on that reel. right now a support vessel is being used to unfurl this boom. it s being pulled out in the water, corralling what would be oil if we were in a heavy oil situation. crews can do a couple of things. burn it, skim, it or move it. and as we know, there are a lot of these oil skimming vessels working the gulf coast. and just to give you an idea of how expensive this portion of the clean up will be, the boat here behind me cost $9,700 a day to operate. $3,000 for fuel and that is just for a 12 hour shift. we know those crews are working around the clock, shep? shepard: and many of them. laura ingle in new jersey tonight. thanks. all of this could have enormous impact on the price we pay from food to energy. oil prices have surged in recent days. but this was an exploratory well and it s not in the system, if you will. the cost of a barrel went up another dollar today to settle

spill could be worse than the exxon valdez disaster, bp s green image is about to take a hit. the fox report s chief correspondent jonathan hunt is here with the details. the government is saying basically bp is not doing enough. they are saying it very plainly, shep. janet napolitano saying in fact today that bp has to, quote, supplement its mobilization. on its own web site bp is trumpeting the fact that its opened command centers and opened hotlines for reporting of oil wildlife and shoreline. recruiting volunteers and involved in the shut off the leak and the slick. officials think bp can and should do more. today s statements were about turning up the pressure on bp. shepard: as they are working in the gulf, executives for bp are working furiously to try to save its image. they are doing what they can. they say they are already committing all all the resources they have to battling this oil slick. they issued a lengthy press release. in it, chief executive tony
