Dunfermline Sheriff Court A TRIAL was called off at the last minute in Dunfermline because the accused and his translator would have been too close together in the dock, breaching Covid restrictions. This was despite 53-year-old Dan Muresan having had to travel to Fife from his home in England. There were also a number of witnesses waiting at Dunfermline Sheriff Court to give evidence. A sheriff lamented the lack of headphone facilities in Scottish courts, pointing out they have been around since back in the 1940s for the Nuremburg war crimes trials. The allegation of driving under the influence of alcohol and crashing on the M90 near Dunfermline goes back almost three years.
Anthony Morgan, 46, of Manse Road, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court. He admitted that on November 10, at Tesco, Queensferry Road, Rosyth, he stole a bottle of vodka and a bottle of gin. Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “There’s a reason why things went off the rails.” Looking at Morgan’s previous convictions, Sheriff Charles Macnair replied: “He’s been off the rails for the past 15 years. I don’t know if he’s ever been on the rails.” The sheriff told Morgan: “You have a truly deplorable record. You’ve been offending for 15 years almost uninterrupted.” He called for reports and Morgan will be sentenced on January 6.
