tonight. the president and his administration are under fire for repeatedly using false misleading statistics to make their case for a border wall but he will make that case once again. joining us now is representative sherrill who just began her work in the congress and joining us. thanks for joining us. thank you for having me. as one of your first acts, you decided not to accept a paycheck until this government shutdown ends. why? i was working at the u.s. attorneys office when there was a shutdown. i remember a single mom sitting next to me turning to me saying, i have no idea how i will pay my bills. i think it is the job of congress to face the same issues of the people affected by this are facing. president trump we understand will speak for seven or eight minutes tonight. what can he say that will
just look at the 14 races that we have called having flipped. of those 14, 10 of them are women, okay? of those 14, six of them, crow in colorado, sherrill in new jersey, rose in new york, houlahan in pennsylvania, lamb in pennsylvania, and luria in virginia, six of them are veterans. then one african-american and one latino. so the recruiting has been let s really find the best people in these districts and let s make sure that we re not just leaving this to chance. so you have to give credit to the democrats for that because they have done an excellent job with that. what does this mean if the democrats gain control of the house? it means that there will be oversight of the trump administration by a branch of congress. there really hasn t been that in the senate or the house up until now. it means that sometimes that oversight, those investigations will be considered overreach by republicans, intrusions by republicans. democrats will have subpoena
republicans certainly more competitive out there in minnesota, wolf. we ve got two more major projections in the house of representatives. right now more good news for the democrats right now. in new jersey, the democratic candidate, sherrill is the winner. she defeats weber. it s a pickup for the democrats in new jersey. similarly in florida, debbie mucarsel-powell defeats carlos curbelo in that district. she really went after carlos curbelo on obamacare and other issues. cnn now projects house 26 in florida, she is the winner. right now democrats must pick up 15 republican seats. that number is consistently going down, john. so those are two major pickups for the democrats in this race for the house majority. so you re going through to look for others. i m just looking at 9:00 poll closing in new york. you re trying to look up there. there s donovan, republican incumbent. max rose, the democratic challenger. again, 86% of the vote in.
