Caraga, with their song titled Ipanumpa ko, was chosen as one of the finalists in the World Category of the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) 2020. “Ipanumpa ko” is the only Bisaya song to make it to the top one percent among 26,000 entries. Caraga was derived from CARAGA Region where all the band members came from. According to the members, it is a way for them to honor their hometown.

Bisaya songs, songwriters win big at Philpop 2020

SunStar REON December 29, 2020 POP song “Suyo” by songwriters/artists Noah Alejandre and Reanne Borela of Ormoc City won first place during the Philpop 2020 songwriting competition. The Grand Finals night was streamed on Dec. 20 through the PhilPop Facebook page. The winners also walked away with the grand prize of P1 million. Alejandre and Borela make up indie pop duo Reon. Their bilingual entry “Suyo” is one of three songs submitted from the Visayas cluster. This year’s iteration of PhilPop introduced a new format wherein the songwriting competition now accepted song entries nationwide via clusters namely, North Luzon, South Luzon, Metro Manila, the Visayas and Mindanao.

PhilPop 2020 Songwriting Festival. Reanna Borela, who penned  “Suyo” bested 14 other entries from Metro Manila, North Luzon, South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao clusters on the PhilPop Finals Night held online last Sunday, December 20, 2020. Alejandre and Borela also served as the interpreters of their own track under the moniker, reon. For this, the composers bagged a grand prize of P1 million, tax free. Meanwhile, Aikee’s “Bestiny” and Sherwin Fugoso’s “Pahuway” won the first and second place, taking home P500,000 and P250,000, respectively. The former entry was interpreted by Kevin Yadao and Ferdinand Aragon, who composed the PhilPop 2018 runner-up song, “Di Ko Man.”
