Katherine S. Dukes, 89, of Delmar passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family, Tuesday, April 13, 2021. She was born Aug. 23, 1931, in Laurel, a daughter of the late Lorenzo and Sadie Mae (Moore) Scott.
Miss Katherine and her late husband Gene opened Dukes Jewelers in Sharptown where they operated for several years before moving to Delmar in 1957. She truly enjoyed helping people with jewelry and watch repairs, and even in her later years continued to operate out of her home until just a few short years ago.
She was very active serving the Delmar community through memberships in the Delmar Lioness Club, the Delmar Lions Club, Order of the Eastern Star Adah Chapter 5 in Delmar, where she served as treasurer for many years, and Order of the Eastern Star Roelma Chapter 113 in Sharptown. She was also a longtime, active member of St. Stephen’s United Methodist Church in Delmar, where she sang in the choir for many years. She will be
MOUNT CARMEL â Betty Ruth Riley Mair, 94, passed peacefully in her sleep on Friday, Dec. 11, 2020, at Wabash General Hospital. She was the youngest of eight children born to Mary Ann (Hatfield) and Charles W. Riley in Owensville, Indiana, on Jan. 22, 1926.
After graduating from Owensville High School in 1944, Betty attended Central Beauty College in Indianapolis, Indiana. Upon completion of college, she was employed by Marinella Beauty Shop in Princeton, Indiana, along with her sister Lorraine.
Upon return from the Navy, Bob Mair lived in Princeton. He spied his future wife sitting at the corner of a local restaurant. They were married six months later Dec. 31, 1946. In 1949 they moved to Mt. Carmel, where they settled and were active in the community and their church, Trinity United Methodist. As a 67-year member of Trinity, Betty kept very busy.
