New Delhi, Feb 14 : The idea of simultaneously releasing films in theatres and on OTT platforms caught the world by surprise, but there seems to be an alternative to the model that is brewing in India, which is shortening the gap between theatrical release and OTT release.
The trend came to notice first when the Tamil film Master , starring Vijay and Vijay Sethupathy, dropped digitally within days of release in January.

In 2016, when Satyajit Ray’s son went to the Bhowanipore area in Kolkata, he was distraught to see two iconic cinema halls that once featured his maestro father’s classics, shut down forever. A newspaper quoted him as saying he was `heartbroken’.
But if cinema halls faced an uncertain future then, stampeded by the arrival of fancy multiplexes, the threat of COVID-19 is an altogether different proposition.
India has already seen closure of about 1,000 theatres in 2020 due to the impact of the pandemic. To save the rest from disintegration, harried cinema owners are seeking relief measures from the government in the upcoming Budget.

Talking about the film division of Saregama and leading it, Mr. Anand said, “So, the film producing division of Saregama, which is India’s oldest music label, it has the most incredible and rich catalogue of music. Going back to the early days pretty much every song which belongs to my childhood or your childhood, the feeling of nostalgia and the great kind of cinema that we have created overall in these years resides in Saregama. Yoodlee is an attempt for Saregama to have a participation in the making of movies and not just in the music of movies. So, we started out cautiously, slowly to establish the fact that film-making can be a profitable venture.”

Noted music composer Datta Naik s life will be brought on celluloid by Yoodlee Films with N Datta: The Untold Story, the makers announced on Wednesday. Commemorating Naik s death anniversary, his son Roop Naik has collaborated with Yoodlee Films, the film division of Saregama India Limited, to fill in the gaps of the story. N Dutta, who also went by the name of Datta Naik, started his career as an assistant to the late legendary music director SD Burman.
Naik s first break was in 1951 with Punjabi film Baalo and in Hindi cinema with the Raj Khosla-directed Milap (1955). He went on to score music for Marine Drive, Hum Panchhi Ek Daal Ke, Dhool ka Phool, Dharamputra, among others.
