After eight years of running from pillar to post to gain possession of a
flat he bought in Mulund, Ketan Mehta can finally spot an end to his ordeal. The original homeowner,
Dilip Vedpathak, from whom Mehta bought the flat in 2012 and who refused to hand over its original
share certificate, was on Sunday arrested on the charge of extortion.
The
Mulund police booked Vedpathak, 57, and his son, Sachin, under sections 384 (punishment for extortion) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC on Friday based on a complaint by Mehta, a building materials contractor. According to the FIR, the two demanded Rs 5 lakh from Mehta for handing over the flat’s original share certificate, and another Rs 5 lakh to vacate the Mulund flat they had forced their way into last month. Vedpathak was arrested from the flat, while Sachin is on the run.
