Reserve soldiers from Northern Ireland are to be deployed to the Falkland Islands. 2 Royal Irish will join the 1st Battalion of the Welsh Guards for a three-month operational tour of the south Atlantic islands. Around 70 Royal Irish reservists have returned to Northern Ireland following a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Cyprus. The men and women from 2 Royal Irish were part of the largest deployment of British Army reservists in decades, as part of the 6 Rifles battlegroup.
