As Santa made his way across Wexford and made sure all the boys and girls received everything they asked for, one little boy was determined to make sure he didn’t miss out. Although he wasn’t due to arrive until January 21, Arin Aswin Star wanted to see what Christmas was all about and so, in the early hours of December 25, he unexpectedly arrived, taking everyone, including parents Inisha and Aswin, by surprise.

It may have disrupted the family’s Christmas plans, left Peter McCamley working long hours away from home, but when a part you’ve been waiting all your life comes up it’s hard to say no. That part is Captain Von Trapp and the show is The Sound of Music, which Peter stars in this December and January.

As the winners of its 2022 New Voices competition were celebrated in a special movie premiere night at the Arts Centre, Screen Wexford has already begun its search for the next generation of local up-and-coming filmmakers. The works of Leah O’Toole, Joseph Orr, and Andrew and Shane Kenny, were screened at the Arts Centre after each received a bursary to make their selected films from Screen Wexford and the arts department of Wexford County Council (WCC).

Having served the people of Rosslare over the course of three centuries and been involved in some of the most difficult and dangerous rescues in the history of Co Wexford, the Wickham family have been recognised for their efforts by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). Beginning with Thomas Wickham in the late 1800s, five generations of the family have served in various roles with the RNLI, with lifeboat volunteer Sean Cullen (18) the latest to continue this proud tradition.

Children from Rosslare Strand and its surrounding areas were treated to a special visit from Santa last week as the big man came to Cois Barry Community House. Receiving a special escort from the local coastguard, Santa arrived with lights flashing and sirens blaring as more than 100 little ones eagerly waited for the chance to prove they’d been nice throughout 2023.

Mayglass is mourning the death of Mrs. Eileen Casey (neé Dooley), one of its most popular parishioners, who has died at the age of 79 following a long illness.

However, while Wally O’Neill’s store in St Peter’s Square provides an environment, an atmosphere, conducive to the discussion of the great writers or our time, its the society’s members who ensure their fortnightly meetings are open, entertaining, and enjoyable for all.

Over two thousand students from 24 secondary schools across Co Wexford will take part in a road safety initiative specifically designed to educate teenagers in the coming weeks. The Just 1 Life programme, which is run by the Wexford Rotary club in partnership with Wexford County Council (WCC), is aimed at increasing road safety awareness among young people and reducing road traffic deaths.

When Jason Kenna suffered a cerebellum stroke on October 26, 2018 his family were told to prepare for the worst. Accounting for just four per cent of all strokes, the survival rates for those who suffer cerebellum strokes is notoriously low, and Jason’s specialist, Professor Karl Boyle, had only ever had one patient survive one.
