The EC’s move comes after the turnout in the first phase of polling on April 19, including in four seats of Bihar, was lower than the turnout in the same seats in 2019. The EC cited the increased temperatures as a probable factor affecting voter turnout.
Polling in a section of polling stations in Banka on Friday, Madhepura and Khagaria on May 7 and Munger on May 13 was extended from 7am to 4pm to 7am to 6pm, according to a gazette notification.
