The Cahn Fellowship honors principals nationwide.

The local principals – Jim Dutrow of Lake Ridge Middle School, Kaitlyn Engelmeier-Foor of Porter Traditional School and Heather Goode of Sinclair Elementary School – are three of 70 principals selected nationwide for the fellowship, according to a Prince William school system news release.

Houston-area school districts reported improvements in their post-storm operations. Houston ISD and others reported fewer closures on Wednesday.

Houston ISD announced 36 school closures for Tuesday as repairs continue in the wake of the destructive storm.

Houston now has 38 schools closed Tuesday, including Marshall and Hamilton middle schools, that had the air conditioning systems fail overnight.

Work is underway to get more Houston ISD schools open after last week's destructive storms. Fifty-four campuses are closed on Monday.

The National Weather Service in Houston warned that temperatures could hit around 90 degrees this weekend.

As the Houston area works to clean up and restore power to thousands after deadly storms, it will do so under a smog warning and as all of southern Texas starts to feel the heat.
