The management of the University of Calabar, Cross River, South-South Nigeria, has appointed Dr Rose Ohiama Ugbe, as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Law. Ugbe's appointment was made by the university’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi following the suspension of Prof. Cyril Ndifon, who was accused by the university's female law students of incessant sexual harassment. The new acting dean was expected to resume on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, until the appointment of a substantive dean.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) will investigate the allegations of sexual assault against the suspended Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, Prof. Cyril Ndifon. Mr Habeeb Lawal, the NBA National Publicity Secretary disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the association reached the decision at its recent meeting presided over by its President, Mr Yakubu Maikyau (SAN).
A professor in the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom, SinemAbasi Ekong has narrated how the embattled Dean of the Faculty of Law in the University of Calabar, Cross River State, Prof. Cyril Ndifon allegedly raped her 20-year-old daughter in his office. Prof. Ekong said Ndifon tore her daughter's answer script during a test and subsequently used that to trick her daughter to go to his office, where he allegedly raped her twice.
Prof. Cyril Ndifon, Dean of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) Faculty of Law, who was accused by female law students of incessant sexual harassment has been suspended by the university. Ndifon was suspended a few days after some female law students of the university protested in the school, accusing Ndifon of sexually harassing and exploiting them. The university management in a letter dated August 17, 2023 and signed by the Registrar, Gabriel Egbe, said the suspension takes effect immediately.
