Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Tuesday called the lynching of a labourer at the Singhu border a possible conspiracy to defame the farmers’ agitation, citing a purported photograph of Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar with a Nihang “leader”. The group photo includes Tomar and a man in blue robes of the Sikh order of the Nihangs.

The body of Lakhbir Singh, who was killed by Nihangs, was found on Friday tied to a barricade at the Singhu border with a hand chopped off and multiple wounds caused by sharp-edged weapons.

Condemning the recent murder at Singhu border, Ashish Mital underlined how the SKM has been instrumental in preventing 'an iota of counter-violence' across India in reaction to the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.

Farmers have been protesting at different sites since November 26 last year against the enacted farm laws: Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; the Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

“They've (Nihangs) said it's a religious matter & Govt shouldn't link it to farmers' protest...We're talking to them that they're not needed here as of now...Govt can deteriorate the situation. The conspiracy was executed by govts..,” said Rakesh Tikait. 

Three people allegedly involved in the lynching of a labourer at the farmers’ protest site at Singhu border were remanded to six days in police custody as the Haryana Police set up two Special Investigation Teams to probe the incident.

The accused has confessed that he killed Lakhbir after he was told that he had insulted Guru Granth Sahib. He got angry and cut off his limbs and bled him to death.

All three accused namely, Narayan Singh, Bhagwant Singh and Govind Preet Singh, were sent to police custody for six days in connection with the gruesome lynching and murder at Singhu Border.
