Yreka High School nurse honored for hard work during COVID pandemic
Siskiyou Daily News
For the past year, nurse Amy Gaither has been hard at working making sure things are running as smoothly as possible with COVID-19 measures and safety at Yreka High School.
“It s a challenging year for nurses,” she said. “In my 32 years as a nurse this has been my most difficult year yet.”
Gaither said it is a true team effort to make sure safety measures are constantly in place: ensuring students keep a safe social distance from one another and they re wearing their masks. Since the start of the year students have been going to school in a rotation of three days and two days a week.

A year into the COVID-19 pandemic, Siskiyou County residents continue to see high daily case numbers and positive test rates while people wait their turn to get a vaccine.
While those age groups and occupations deemed most vulnerable to the virus are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, supplies and staff to administer shots are limited, public health officials said. That’s slowing down vaccination efforts.
Meanwhile, business restrictions are in place, as are other policies, to reduce spread of the disease.
On Thursday, Siskiyou County’s average daily case rate per 100,000 people was 14.6. It’s average test positivity rate over the past two weeks was 12.3%.
