While many have dismissed businessman Tokyo Sexwale s claims of the theft of billions intended for SA s upliftment as unhinged, deputy minister of state security Zizi Kodwa says the former Gauteng premier may be an unwitting instrument in a smear campaign against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Kodwa said yesterday the timing of Sexwale s claims bore the hallmarks of an intelligence-driven operation. He said security operatives had investigated a similar scam, going by the name Metro Grant Holdings, that had approached former president Jacob Zuma with offers of money to unlock development about six years ago.

Misleading media over a R238,000 mop and protection of colleagues among complaints against Eskom boss The allegations against Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter emerge as the public spat between him and suspended Eskom chief procurement officer Solly Tshitangano caught the attention of parliament 04 March 2021 - 06:00
Among the startling allegations levelled against Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter is that he misled the media about halting the purchase of a single wooden mop at R238,000 and that he protected colleagues implicated in project management contracts at Kusile power station that escalated from R100m in 2007 to R12bn and counting.
These allegations emerged as the very public spat between De Ruyter and his subordinate, suspended Eskom chief procurement officer Solly Tshitangano, caught the attention of parliament this week.
More allegations of impropriety at Eskom after ‘irregular appointment’ A contractor is said to have tried to get an Eskom subsidiary to appoint a service provider through the back door 01 March 2021 - 20:38
An Eskom contractor, Werner Mouton, whose allegedly irregular appointment at the power utility caused a high-level fallout, is at the centre of another allegation of an irregular appointment to get more work at Johannesburg’s Megawatt Park.
The attempt has left Eskom and one of its service providers, Trans-Africa Projects (TAP), contradicting each other over a claim that Mouton, a private contractor hired to help Eskom with fuel oil pricing, attempted to induce employees at Eskom Rotek Industries (ERI) to appoint TAP without going through normal tender processes.
Instability and infighting still reign at the very top echelons of Eskom, and new information has emerged about a deep falling-out between CEO André de Ruyter and his lieutenant, trusted civil servant Solly Tshitangano.
