The umbrella body of several farmer unions took the decision at a meeting held at the Jat Bhavan here under the leadership of Yudhveer Singh, Raja Ram Singh and Dr. Sunilam, according to a statement issued by the SKM

The SKM has announced 'Protest Against Betrayal' meetings at district levels from July 18, and at the end of the campaign on July 31, a chakka jam of all the major highways across the country will be organised.

The farmers' body has alleged that the Centre has 'reneged on its assurances' and that it would be relaunching 'Mission UP' to inform voters of BJP's anti-farmer policies.

On Tuesday, the SKM had demanded clarification on certain points in the government's proposal, including on the precondition set for the withdrawal of 'fake' cases against farmers.

This came after the Central Government sent a letter to farmers, promising to form a committee to take a call on the Minimum Support Price and withdrawing cases against them immediately

SKM leaders had demanded a formal communication of the Union government's intentions on official letterhead, which the government is understood to have now given.

Demonstrations were held by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) in Punjab and Haryana to demand immediate procurement of paddy, the Centre today revoked its decision.
