slahi tahar rahim: Live & Latest News Updates : Vimarsana.com
The Mauritanian is now available for audiences to bring home on either Blu-ray or DVD.
Across the pond, the film earned five nominations for the BAFTA Awards: Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. I’ll be curious to see what acclaim the film picks up during awards season for those groups that didn’t add a two-month extension.
Synopsis
The Mauritanian follows the remarkable true story of Mohamedou Ould Slahi (Tahar Rahim) who was captured by the U.S. government and imprisoned for years without trial at Guantanamo Bay (GTMO). It is an inspiring account of survival against all odds as Slahi, in his fight for freedom, finds allies in defense attorney Nancy Hollander (Jodie Foster) and her associate Teri Duncan (Shailene Woodley). Through Nancy and Teri’s controversial advocacy and evidence uncovered by formidable military prosecutor Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Couch (Benedict Cumberbatch), a shocking and far-reaching conspiracy is revealed.

The Mauritanian – Mohamedou Ould Slahi (Tahar Rahim, who received a Golden Globe nomination for his performance) has been held for years in prison at Guantanamo Bay Prison Camp by the U.S. Government without a single charge or the possibility of a trial, on suspicion that he was involved in the attacks that took place in America on 9/11. Defense attorney Nancy Hollander (Jodie Foster, who won a Golden Globe for her role) and her associate Teri Duncan (Shailene Woodley) decide to take on his case. They run into opposition from Lieutenant Colonel Stuart Couch (Benedict Cumberbatch), but as he uncovers evidence, he begins to believe there has been a conspiracy to detain innocent men. Jodie Foster stars in
The Mauritanian as sage defense attorney Nancy Hollander, who takes on the real-life case of Mohamedou Ould Slahi (Tahar Rahim).
Held for years, without charge or trial, in a detention camp on the island of Cuba, thousands of miles away from his island home of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, Slahi is languishing with little hope of anyone believing in his innocence. Accused of being the principal recruiter for the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Slahi faces a death sentence. Who would take on
that case?
Nancy Hollander would, and did, guided by firmly-held personal principles. As for Slahi, one wonders how he could maintain his sanity, much less his respectful demeanor, despite years of abuse. As Hollander, Jodie Foster gives "a profoundly satisfying, genuinely sincere performance that rings entirely true," as I wrote in my original review, so it's no surprise that she won a Golden Globe for her performance.
