news alert out of louisiana because water has come over the top of a levee near new orleans there. reports of people trapped in their homes. close to 415,000 people now without power in that state alone. we have fox team coverage. phil katy something in theodore, alabama. first, let s go to jonathan serrie live in new orleans. good morning, again. you mentioned the power outages. we still have electricity in this portion of downtown new orleans. most of the city is reportedly without electricity. however, city officials say this is not affecting the drainage system. all of the sewer pumps are working. power outages not affecting them. the levee system protecting new orleans is holing up and forgetting the city. but it s a different story in portions of placquemine parish. there is a levee on the east bay that s been overtop.
steve: we start this half hour with a fox news alert. now hurricane isaac slamming louisiana at 80 miles per hour. some gusts up to 100. rescue efforts underway for people trapped in placquemine parish. the hurricane causing at least one leveehere to overtop. water going over the top. 400,000 people in the state without juice. we have fox team coverage following the hurricane. maria molina is tracking it. but let s start with elizabeth prann in new orleans. let s start with you where it is windy. yes. we get a moment of reprieve like we re getting now. then we get these gusts of about 61 miles per hour. we re also seeing this rainfall that is just unyielding. it s starting around 8:00 p.m. last night. we expect the conditions to stay
pretty much just sitting across southeastern louisiana, producing a lot of heavy rain. another big concern with it has been tornadoes. we do currently have a tornado warning, big concern with this one because it does include long beach, gulfport examine biloxi, mississippi. so looking at pretty significant cities being impacted by this storm right now. possible were tornado on the ground and this tornado warning goes into effect until 6:45 a.m. central time. again, the cities of long beach, gulfport, and biloxi in mississippi are under a tornado warning. we do also have a tornado watch across extreme western portions of the state of florida, also parts of southern alabama, mississippi and southeastern louisiana. in effect until 7:00 a.m. local time out here. you can also see something else that has changed with hurricane isaac. that eye wall across the western part of the storm system originally or earlier this morning was dry air. now it s started to fill in with more heavy rain. so w
