On Jan. 19, 2024, at 10:20 a.m. EST, the JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM) landed on the lunar surface.

JAXA has switched SLIM off with 12pc power remaining to allow for a possible resumption when the sun’s angle changes.

We might not know what color the planets really are, but we know a whole lot of other fascinating things about them.

Japan's SLIM moon lander appears to have tumbled onto its side, with its solar cells facing away from the sun and unable to provide power.

Japan's spacecraft — the Smart Lander for Investigating the Moon — ended up face-down in the regolith, a photo released by JAXA shows.

Japan is now the fifth country to successfully land a probe on the moon, following the U.S., Russia, China and India.

Japan became the fifth country in history to reach the moon when the Smart Lander for Investigating Moon, or SLIM, touched down on the Moon early on Saturday.
