A Japanese lunar explorer equipped with precision navigation technology lost power a few hours after successfully landing on the Moon over the weekend as it was unable to generate power from the Sun, the country's space agency says.

Japanese space officials said on Monday that they hope the lunar lander that arrived on the moon's surface on Friday will regain power once the sun hits the spacecraft's solar cells from the west.

Space agency JAXA says its vessel could be revived thanks to an early shutdown, noting it has ‘lots’ of data.
