The Smart Tyre Company has joined hands with NASA to bring its revolutionary air-less tyres to bicycles
The tyres are made out of a smart memory alloy which regains its original shape after deformation.
Originally developed for Mars rover missions in the future.
The alloy is wrapped with a specially-formulated poly-rubber material for optimum grip.
End result is a tyre that doesn’t need air, doesn’t get punctured and lasts longer as well.
One of the biggest challenges of
extraterrestrial exploration is having wheels strong enough to traverse over harsh terrain, and even harsher climatic conditions. Even the Curiosity Rover’s solid aluminium wheels couldn’t last long enough on the Martian surface, as they started showing signs of deterioration in just a little over a year. To solve this issue, one of NASA’s research arm, the Glenn Research Centre has come up with non-pneumatic tyres made out of shape memory alloys. Now Los Angeles-based The Smart Tyre Co
