Legendary former Germany player and manager Franz Beckenbauer has died aged 78.
Widely considered one of the greatest footballers in history, Beckenbauer nicknamed ‘Der Kaiser’ is one of just three men to win the World Cup as both a player and a manager, lifting the trophy in 1974 and again in 1990.
Former Brazil boss Mario Zagallo, who passed away over the weekend, and Didier Deschamps of France are the other two.
A midfielder before pioneering the sweeper role in central defence, Beckenbauer was twice named European Footballer of the Year and won the European Cup on three.
