The 2023 Women’s World Cup is historic for many reasons: it's the first time the event has been co-hosted by two countries (Australia and New Zealand), is the first spanning two confederations and is the first held in the Southern Hemisphere. This year’s tournament is also the first time seven former Stanford players have been selected for World Cup rosters — the most alums in a single World Cup, mens or womens, in university history. 

The U.S. defeated the Netherlands in 2019 for its second consecutive World Cup title. Now the two teams are battling in the group stage as the U.S. looks to shake off a sluggish win over Vietnam.
