Overcast skies meant even partial solar eclipses potentially visible from the British Isles were hidden from view.

The university's department of physics and astronomy is partnering with local libraries and schools prior to the April 8 event to hand out solar eclipse safe-viewing glasses.

On April 8, 2024, a solar eclipse will cross North America. Montreal lies directly in its path. From much of the city, the moon will appear to completely block out the sun — a total eclipse. But because Montreal Island finds itself right at the northern limit of the path of totality, areas north of the city, such as Laval, won't get to experience the full event.
