Israel has dismissed two officers and reprimanded three others for their roles in an attack in Gaza that killed seven aid workers

The Israeli military has dismissed a number of officers in response to the deaths of seven aid workers, including Australian Zomi Frankcom, in Gaza. The announcement comes as the opening of more humanitarian aid routes into Gaza are announced to help struggling Palestinians.

For months before seven employees of the nonprofit World Central Kitchen were killed in an airstrike, aid groups in Gaza warned that the system used to coordinate their deliveries with Israel’s military was broken, putting the lives of relief workers at risk.

The three tunnels had been discovered in either 2014 or in 2019 and had been struck in previous operations.

Israel’s military said its troops made a series of “grave” mistakes and violated protocol in their strikes that killed seven aid workers in Gaza this week.
