Greg Kuperman, Space-WATCH program manager in DARPA’s Strategic Technology Office told Breaking Defense they're actively seeking space companies to provide data, and later will figure out how to aggregate it into an effective, dispersed LEO-monitoring system.

"Sapphire has done yeoman's service for us. It is beyond end of life, but keeps chugging away like the Energizer Bunny. And, and every day that it has a hiccup, I go, 'Not today, not today,'" said Brig. Gen. Mike Adamson.

"We're trying to monitor the space environment — actively monitoring, actively looking, always on, if you like — through space to pick up activity, to pick up changes in plan, behaviors or patterns of life," explained Stewart Bain, CEO of North Star Earth & Space.
