The Jet Propulsion Lab lost contact with Voyager 2, which is traveling 12.3 billion miles away from Earth, after engineers mistakenly pointed its antenna 2 degrees away from its home planet.

Communications with the far-flung Voyager 2 space probe have been temporarily severed due to unintended consequences resulting from routine commands, NASA says. 

NASA is attempting to recover communications with Voyager 2, a spacecraft that has been exploring interstellar space since it was launched in 1977. Flight controllers had sent a wrong command which tilted the antenna of the spacecraft away from Earth, causing it to lose communications.
