Virgin Galactic planning test flight into space from New Mexico during February [Las Cruces Sun-News, N.M.]
SPACEPORT AMERICA – Commercial spaceline company Virgin Galactic announced a new test flight window Monday that could see a crewed spaceflight take off from New Mexico in mid-February.
On Dec. 12, pilots Dave Mackay and C.J. Sturckow aborted a test flight after the spacecraft VSS Unity detached from its carrier aircraft, but instead of launching upward into space as planned, the Unity glided to a safe landing after a rocket motor failed to ignite.
It would have been the first crewed suborbital flight to launch from New Mexico and a critical milestone for Spaceport America, a commercial spaceport in Sierra County.
