Spartanburg Regional Foundation awards $600,000 in grants

The Spartanburg Regional Foundation grants program allocated more than $600,000 this year to promote health and wellness in the community. These grants promote partnerships and clinical innovation, provide assistance for community members in crisis, and fund important technology and facilities upgrades.   “The Foundation is proud to support a deserving group of 2022 recipients, and we are grateful to the donors who make these grants possible,” said Kristy Caradori, executive director of the Foundation. “We were pleased to have numerous outstanding applicants from both the community and the health system. Our Grants and Allocations Committee and Board of Trustees have done a thorough job of reviewing proposals and selecting organizations and projects that will make a meaningful impact on the well-being of our community.”

Cold weather shelters in Spartanburg remain busy during COVID-19

Spartanburg experienced its first freezing weather of the season last week and that left many without a home looking for a place to stay. Miracle Hill Ministries' shelter at 189 N. Forest St., has been helping those in need of a warm place to stay for years. The shelter pulls out beds and uses several areas to accommodate people, but its mission has become more challenging because of the coronavirus pandemic. The shelter was able to house up to 80 people, but social distancing requirements means the shelter can't accommodate the same amount of people. "We have been practicing social distancing so to do it correctly we have enough space for 44 people," said Calvin Vinson, Miracle Hill Ministries' facility director. "We are doing the best we can, but sometimes it's difficult to maintain social distancing. We are not going to let anybody freeze and are doing what we can."

Spartanburg Regional Foundation provides holiday meals to 10,000 employees

During the holiday season, Spartanburg Regional Foundation provided meals to 10,000 hospital associates in the hospital system to show its appreciation for all their hard work during the COVID-19 pandemic. "We have never done anything like this," said Kristy Caradori, Spartanburg Regional Foundation executive director. "It's been a difficult year for front-line folks. This is something we could do safely during the virus (COVID-19) and wanted staff to feel appreciated at this time." Two-thousand meals were delivered Tuesday to employees at Spartanburg Medical Center's parking lot at 101 E. Wood St., Spartanburg. Each boxed meal contained turkey, macaroni and cheese, green beans, pumpkin pie, rolls, and gravy. There was enough food in each box to feed up to six people.
