WASHINGTON — As the House of Representatives continues to struggle to elect a speaker, New York’s Republican representatives are proving to be key decision-makers for their party.

One half of the U.S. Congress remains paralyzed in an operatic spectacle of betrayal, bitterness and internecine backstabbing. The House of Representatives will soon have gone three weeks without a Speaker, after repeated failures by Republicans.

Ohio Representative Jim Jordan has failed in two votes this week to become Speaker of the House. He’s the candidate Republican Congressman Aaron Bean supports as do most of the GOP members.

Amid the ongoing chaos in the speaker-less House, Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz defended his decision to lead the effort to oust Kevin McCarthy from his speakership but did not articulate what he got out of it besides removing the California Republican from the position.
