Syracuse, N.Y. Spectrum is raising the price of cable television and phone service again.
The company is raising the price for most customers of its Spectrum TV Silver and TV Gold plans by $8 a month starting with next month’s bills. Customers with the TV Select plan will see a $3 increase.
In addition, Spectrum is raising the equipment charge for its cable boxes, also known as receivers, by $1. They now cost $7.99 a month.
Its broadcast TV surcharge, the fee it adds to bills for the cost of the charges it pays to local over-the-air broadcast stations for the rights to carry their programming, is going up $1.54. The surcharge now stands at $16.45, so it will be rising to $17.99.
The Erie woman answered the call, not once but several times. I pressed one to talk with a representative, Trombetta said. I ended up yelling at them three different times. It didn t do a bit of good.
Trombetta said she received the calls on Saturday and Sunday, all recordings claiming that she had a suspicious $729 charge on her Amazon account. The calls came every 5 minutes to 10 minutes.
She wasn t alone. Dozens, perhaps hundreds, of Verizon and Spectrum phone customers in Erie, Crawford and Mercer counties received the repeated calls over the weekend, according to social media posts.
Many of the customers, like Trombetta, do not even have Amazon accounts. The scammers are hoping you press 1 to talk with a representative and provide personal information, such as a credit card number.
