The dean of diversity, equity, and inclusion at Stanford Law School has resigned her position, four months after she shouted down a federal judge who was giving a lecture, the law school announced Thursday.

The Supreme Court soon will be asked yet again to teach college administrators that they may not deny the First Amendment freedom of speech to students who voice unpopular opinions. The justices ought to accept the petition, with alacrity.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit has ruled that Speech First, an organization devoted to promoting free speech and other civil rights on U.S. college campuses, did not have standing to challenge Virginia Tech on its bias-incident policies.

The Virginia Tech policy allows people to report incidents of bias, after which a university team responds, but does not discipline people involved in that incident, according to the university.
