Y’all why does no one talk about the bug problems in Idaho? The mosquitoes right now are terrible! This is top of mind for me I guess because I recently...

A team of researchers filmed jumping spiders overnight and observed behaviors that mirror rapid eye movement sleep in other species. It helps that baby jumping spiders have translucent exoskeletons.

According to a study, male spiders have evolved behavioural mating strategies to increase their chances of copulation despite the risk of being eaten by their mates.

A research shows that spiders’ overnight movements look a lot like REM in other species, like dogs or cats twitching in their sleep.

Male spiders have evolved behavioural mating strategies to improve their chances of mating despite the risk of being cannibalised by their mates.

Daniela Roessler, the study's lead author, said footage captured the spiders' retinas shaking and legs twitching, reminding her of a dog dreaming.

Spiders might experience dreaming

Daniela Roessler and her colleagues trained cameras on baby jumping spiders at night to find out.

Her latest study, released on August 8 in Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, shows that jumping spiders go through a sleep-like condition and exhibit fast eye movements comparable to those seen in people who are dreaming.

A new discovery about jumping spiders could challenge some pretty hefty human assumptions about the cognitive abilities of arthropods.
