Houstonians are a hardy bunch of folks but this past winter storm coupled with an ongoing pandemic and political back-biting about energy has some of us ready to throw in the towel. One of the hardest hit industries is the hospitality sector with restaurants, cafes, bars and food purveyors falling victim to not only the weather but power outages and water issues that had many of them closings their doors this week.
Most of our restaurants have reopened in some form or another. Some are doing only take-away. Others are offering dine-in, a welcome respite for those who have eaten weenie-beanies and canned tuna for the past week. While many are back to offering their full menus, others may have limited menu items due to supply issues. In loving memory of Darlene McIntosh, of Spring Branch, TX, she went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday February 19, 2021 at the age of 80. She was born May 27, 1940 and is a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nana, and great Nana. She is survived by her wonderful beloved husband of 52 years, to Don McIntosh; 3 sons; Tim Bolton, Troy Bolton, Donnie McIntosh; 6 daughters; Terrie Bolton, Connie Smith, Danita Mason, Billie Jean Olmstead, Debbie Pierotti, and Laurel McIntosh. 24 loving grandchildren, 31 loving great-grandchildren. She always had a contagious smile and laugh that everyone loved. She had such a loving heart that her home was open to anyone. She was a Christian woman with various businesses including owner of The Hair Station, Garden Center, Faithville âGathering Place/Amazing Love Cateringâ built on faith and love. New Braunfels Utilities and the city of New Braunfels will continue to operate a water station this week after the utility lifted its boil water notice on Sunday.
As some Comal County residents return to a state of normal, there are still many struggling with burst pipes and other plumbing issues.
Along with the utility crews who have been working day and night during and after the storms, plumbers are out repairing the breaks, cracks and leaks.

âItâs definitely been some long, long days,â Nickolas Siry said. âThe jobs themselves are really, really tough. Service calls arenât the same as a normal service call. Itâs multiple repairs, multiple breaks. You can get to one customer and find out you might be there half the day changing out broken pipes so itâs definitely really hard to schedule. Thatâs probably the hardest part. We got so many customers. Other than that, itâs nice to be back at work.â
