The author of The Phoenix and the Carpet and The Railway Children, E Nesbit, married an impossible man. Edith fell for Hubert Bland, left home and was married in a register office. He gave a false address and didn’t tell his mother, for he had already had a son by her paid companion, Maggie.
The event includes a carnival from May 19 - 21 at the Washington Street church in honor of the martyred saint, who is also celebrated in Melilli, Siciliy.

MIDDLETOWN — A college professor and native Sicilian, Angelo Glaviano is seeking to shed light on the contributions of fellow Italians, particularly Sicilians, in Middletown through a video and companion book project with colleague Daniel Nocera.
“What brought me into this project was giving credit to Sicilians who came here and made this country a success,” said Glaviano.
