Murals featuring patriotic and local themes could soon decorate the facades of buildings in downtown Antigo.
The Antigo Visual Arts (AVA) group has kicked off a fundraising effort to accomplish this goal, and the Antigo Common Council on Wednesday agreed to donate $5,000 to the project.
Each mural will cost about $2,000 for materials and other supplies, according to the group.
AVA has already contributed $2,000 of its own funds to the project. They will continue to seek donations from community foundations, manufacturers and other businesses to sustain the program.
Mark Desotell, director of administrative services, said the cityâs funds will come from the Façade Grant program, which he recommended be brought to a conclusion.
