In February, I wrote about the practice in many communities of newspapers and other media publishing the daily police briefs.
Local news sources, such as the Standard Freeholder, release the full names and criminal charges of our community members. I explored the issue from a journalistic ethics perspective – if a journalist releases the name of a person charged with a criminal offence – addressing the ethical considerations of publicly identifying a person and their alleged criminal activity, while they are presumed innocent, without reporting on the final outcome of the court case.
