Amid widespread violence and killings, rural West Bengal braces for the crucial three-tier panchayat polls on Saturday, which serves as a litmus test for the 2024 parliamentary elections and holds the power to reshape the states political landscape.

The Calcutta High Court Division Bench on Tuesday directed State Election Commission to deploy an equal number of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and state armed forces in booths. The court also directed that CAPF to stay until the entire process of election is over.
