Cruise News Update It has been just another non-stop week in the cruise industry with many new developments as most cruise lines remain on hold. We’ve had some good and bad news including cancellations and new UK-only sailings from two cruise lines, a major update from Virgin Voyages, Port Canaveral being ready for Carnival’s new Mardi Gras, a further ban for cruise ships in Australia along with some positive news from Royal Caribbean and MSC Cruises. Cruise Line That Requires Guest Vaccination Extends Suspension Saga Cruises, the first cruise line in the world to announce vaccine requirements for all guests, has now extended its suspension on operations. With a roadmap on easing the UK lockdown and plans on reopening international travel, many cruise lines that operate from the country are adjusting plans, including Saga. SAGA Cruises Extends Suspension The situation remains very fluid in the UK on resuming cruise operations. Even though the situation in the country looks positive thanks to the vaccine rollout, easing the lockdown rules will be a slow process. Neil Tague Local authorities have redoubled efforts to convince Chancellor Rishi Sunak to support projects such as a new Deeside Parkway station and the modernisation of Chester’s station in the Budget Statement on 3 March. The news coincides with reports that Transport for the North has been asked by Secretary of State Grant Shapps to hold off on submitting its outline business case for Northern Powerhouse Rail until completion of a Government report into how it will link to HS2, suggesting the funding situation could tighten. Prior to the Spending Review in November, local authority leaders from North Wales, the Wirral and Cheshire West & Chester in the public-private Growth Track 360 partnership had urged Chancellor Rishi Sunak for a £20m development fund to enable progress across key projects.
