25 business leaders in Ohio signed an open letter opposing Issue 1, a ballot-initiative that would make it harder to amend Ohio's state constitution.

The Ohio Supreme Court handed down a ruling Monday that ordered State Issue 1's Aug. 8 ballot language to be rewritten. This gives a small win to opponents of the proposal to make it more difficult to amend the Ohio Constitution.

Ohio today is “The Heart of it All” for some of the most intellectually dishonest elected officials in state history, including holders of the five executive offices, legislative leaders and some Ohio Supreme Court members. All are conspirators in a plot to curtail the most basic element of a constitutional democracy – the right to self-government, most recently exemplified by the scheme to foist State Issue 1 on the voters, writes Brent Larkin in his column today.

Ohio Republicans moving the goal posts from 44 counties to 88 counties, as State Issue 1 proposes, would destroy the ability of grassroots Ohio citizen groups to succeed in getting proposed amendments on the ballot ever again, writes Editor David DeWitt. 

The unconstitutionally gerrymandered, extremist Republican supermajority in the statehouse is the first legislature in Ohio history to try to roll back the constitutional power of voters.
