his state of the union address on tuesday. he focused on jobs. in a trip to wisconsin yesterday. and today in florida will really be focused on medicare and social security and the idea that the president has put out there that republicans are going to try to cut those benefits. florida is a state with a lot of seniors. it s also home to the senator rick scott who the president points to as putting forward a proposal that would cut social security and medicare specifically in that proposal it calls for federal legislation, all federal legislation to be revoted on after five years, so the legislation would sunset, and then congress would have to reauthorize it according to that proposal. now, rick scot says that that s not the president s being disingenuous here, he s not going to cut medicare and social security. we heard that from a number of republicans, but the president likes this issue. it s an issue that he feels was one of his strongest ones from the white house s perspective
including a 7.5 within the last hour. we ll continue to follow. as we monitor that, we have new reporting this morning about what is happening in washington as democratic party leaders say that president biden may still be the ticket for 2024 even if they re not passionate about him. this after the president and vice president turned out for the democratic national committee meeting in the critical battleground state of pennsylvania. that is just ahead of president biden s expected state of the union address on tuesday. what are they saying about how they re viewing what that 2024 ticket could look sflik. i was in philadelphia for that meeting of the democratic national committee. those are the state party chairs, the most involved party operatives. they say, look, they re so happy with what biden has gotten done. really satisfied with a sense of calm that he brought to a lot of things in washington and in the party overall.
they don t feel that passion they felt for president obama or that republicans in the base feel for trump. the dnc chair said, look, you don t find joe biden s face on a t-shirt. that s true. but donald trump s face might be on a t-shirt. he lost in 2020. you see a lot of that feeling from democrats going forward into what will be the state of the union address tomorrow night and what we re thinking will be joe biden s pitch as he starts running for re-election. talking about the competent kpenk competency. that is never the case with president biden. he expecting to run in march or april when they make that decision. what do democrats say? are there any candidates out there? this is what you hear, well, who else would you want in this place? like who else do they believe could deliver here? what do you hear from democrats on that? more to the point in, the 2020 primaries, this were a lot
