Best coffee shops in North Jersey, including Montclair NJ and Wayne NJ

NorthJersey.com Think of a cup of coffee as a bagel, says Jonathan Echeverry, owner of Paper Plane Coffee Co. in Montclair. “You have tons of different types of bagels cinnamon, onion, everything,” he said. “But if you burn every single one of those bagels, they would taste more or less the same. If you just put a light toast on it, it would accentuate the natural flavors of that bagel.” Same deal with coffee. Plenty of coffee shops over-roast their coffee beans. Which is fine, said Echeverry. It’s what we’ve come to expect in a cup of coffee. A burnt bagel will still fill your belly and burnt coffee will still wake you up.

Berkeley Open AUGIE’S MONTREAL DELI Reopened Jan. 13 in the former Brennan’s space is Augie’s Montreal Deli, purveyor of poutine, “smoke meat,” Fin du Monde and all good things French-Canadian just ask the grateful Quebecois in line. Fans of the nearly three-year-old deli may not be able to gather in the new dining room to watch ice hockey just yet, but the location, already a well-loved space in the Berkeley community, is a bit more foot-traffic-friendly for takeout than the old spot on Potter Street. Curbside service for online orders is available by driving up to the Stomper statue out front and calling the restaurant. (Pro tip: Parking on Sundays under the University Avenue overpass is free.) Bienvenue, Augie’s!

Save Our Chinatowns recipe zine; Inauguration Day specials and meals

“Have You Eaten Yet?” a zine about the people and food of Oakland Chinatown In Chinese culture, food is so important to the fabric of life and community, that a common way to greet others is to ask, “Have you eaten yet?” So the phrase is a fitting name for a new zine that focuses on the food and people in Oakland Chinatown. Artists and designers of grassroots initiative Save Our Chinatowns, in partnership with Good Good Eatz, created “Have You Eaten Yet?”, which features bite-sized, well-designed articles on the history of Oakland Chinatown, interviews with notable Oakland residents, restaurant recommendations and other resources on how to support Chinatown business, as well as recipes from the owners of Yuen Hop Noodle Company (for lo mein), Green Fish Seafood Market (for seafood hot pot) and Cam Anh Deli (for lemongrass tofu).
