Gordon sundland circumvented the National Security council and the normal white house process to pursue a shadow policy on ukraine. We already know that guiliani worked through american diplomats and others to pressure the government of ukraine to carry out investigations that would benefit the president politically and he continued to do so as the president froze u. S. Military aid to that country. When it comes to that military aid, we are also learning from the Washington Post that Gordon Sondlands testimony which is scheduled for thursday, quote, will raise the possibility that trump wasnt truthful in his denial of a quid pro quo. According to a person familiar with his testimony, quote, sondland intends to Tell Congress that the content of a text message he wrote denying a quid pro quo with ukraine was relayed to him directly by President Trump. At the same time sondland was reacting to ambassador bill taylors bombshell assertion that i think its crazy to withhold Security Assista
Multiple felonies related to an alleged scheme to funnel foreign and otherwise illegal donations to various republican candidates and campaigns, including more than 300,000 in an allegedly illegal donation to the main super pack supporting the president s reelection. Mr. Parnas is under indictment. He says he would like to cooperate with the impeachment investigators. He says he would also like to cooperate with the federal prosecutors who have charged him in the Southern District of new york. But hes right now out on bond awaiting trial. And i will just mention at the outset that i am cognizant of the fact that we are presenting the second part of this interview tonight rather than just diving right in to some of the other momentous and historic news of today, including the start today of the senate trial of President Trump. Today marks only the third time in u. S. History that an american president has faced an impeachment trial in the senate. And it was a solemn beginning today. The
Hunter, who worked for a time with a ukrainian gas company. According to the journal and youll hear shortly from one of the reporters who broke that story for the journal this did not involve an explicit offer of something in return. Quoting from the story, mr. Trump didnt mention a provision of u. S. Aid to ukraine on the call, said the person, who didnt believe mr. Trump offered the ukrainian president any quid pro quo for his cooperation on any investigation. Now, similar reporting as well from the Washington Post on that and the hard sell on hunter biden. But unlike the journal, the post goes one step beyond, saying the call is at the center of the whistleblower complaint the white house is trying to squelch. The president meantime had this to say. Its a partisan whistleblower. They shouldnt even have information. Ive had conversations with many leaders. Theyre always appropriate. I think scott can tell you that. Always appropriate. At the highest level, always appropriate. And any
Me. Training in aviation had a handgun. Not supposed to have weapons on base. Can you tell me more what we know about him . Reporter sure. Brooke, so we know he opened fire at a classroom building on base and like you said was not supposed to have that handgun. He exchanged shots with two deputies who then killed hill. These two deputies took a shot here and are among those injured at this point. A press conference here at the base of this bridge just about an hour ago when they talked about the heroics of people in uniform both with the navy and the local Sheriffs Office who really jumped into action and the sheriff was saying even those who were injured even while wounded still tried to help others. So really he says a lot of lives were saved today because of that. He also made a point that because this person is a Foreign National, there are going to be things about this investigation that cannot be shared as one typically would. So he asked everyone to be patient, and to trust the
It undermines National Security of the United States. I think its devastating. Most republicans defend the president. From my point of view, to impeach any president over a phone call like this would be insane. Totally inappropriate. But some cracks emerge. I want to say to the president , this is not okay. It is that conversation is not okay. My guest this morning, adam schiff, chairman of the house intelligence committee. The number two house republican, Steve Scalise, and former u. S. Ambassador to russia, michael mcfaul. Plus, the politics of impeachment. Peril for the president and for joe biden. He will stop at nothing to go around power. Does biden emerge damaged or as a more sympathetic figure. Joining me for insight and analysis our White House Correspondent for pbs news hour.
