New plans to turn former Steam Laundry warehouse into 3 homes

Salisbury Steam Laundry plans THE site of the former Salisbury Steam Laundry warehouse could be turned into two houses, under new plans. The application, submitted by OB Architecture, is for the retention and extension of an existing warehouse to create a four bedroom dwelling and the erection of a new three bedroom dwelling . The site exists as a courtyard used for car parking and comprises a brick industrial building, previously occupied as a workshop and store. The design and access statement says the planning history over the last 14 years confirms that there is no objection to the residential development of this brownfield site , adding: The site meets Wiltshire Core Strategy’s Core Policy 1 and falls within the Housing Policy Boundary of Salisbury.

Dec. 11, 1890: The Comet carried exciting news about Johnson City’s Steam Laundry. “The Steam Laundry has been removed into new quarters on West Market street and is ready for business. New machinery has been added and Geo. R. Brown, the proprietor, will spare no pains to make it first class in every particular. The wagon will call regularly for laundry hereafter. Orders from a distance will receive prompt attention. In connection with the laundry, Mr. Brown has fited (sic) up bath rooms but they are not open yet. In a few days, however, all will be ready and both hot and cold baths can be had at all hours in elegant and convenient apartments. The laundry is on West Market near Boone street.”
