ST. CLOUD Want to know what road construction projects are on the horizon for Stearns County? We talked with county engineer Jodi Teich about some of the major projects in the next few years.
The main source of revenue for the Stearns County Highway Department is County State Aid Highway funding made up of proceeds from the state gas tax, motor vehicle sales tax and vehicle registration fees, Teich said.
This year s revenue took a big hit with people driving less, she said, and the Department received 8% less funding than last year, which will affect the county s ability to undertake construction projects in the future.

(KNSI) – The Stearns County Highway Department will soon begin tending to roadside vegetation along all of the county’s highways.
A press release from the county says unwanted brush and noxious weeds will be cut or treated with herbicide. Property owners whose land is abutting county roads can use alternative methods by filling out a spraying exemption form and returning it to the Highway Department.
Before May 15th, property owners are asked to post do not spray signs on the backslope, starting and ending at the areas they do not want to be treated. Brush and weeds must be removed by June 15th and maintained after that. If the brush and weeds are not removed, the county will treat that area as part of the vegetation management program.

(KNSI) – Now is the time to let county officials know if you don’t want any noxious weeds sprayed on your property off a county highway.
The Stearns County Highway Department will begin spraying weeds along county roads in May.
The chemical treatments are part of Stearns County’s vegetation management program.
Unwanted brush and weeds will be cut or treated with herbicide.
All property owners with land abutting county roads have a right to use alternative methods to treat their land.
Stearns County says they will avoid sensitive areas next to the right-of-way during spray operation, such as tree plantations, ornamental plantings, crops, gardens, front yards, lakes, and streams.
