New two-year Vermont study details suicide numbers, related factors

About 246 Vermonters look their lives in 2020-21, most of them men (eight in 10) over the age of 25. That was among the findings of an extensive study released this fall by the Vermont Department of Health that also found the highest rate of suicide among those who are single, never married, or divorced; those with a high school education or less; and those who live in rural areas of the state. Veterans had a suicide rate more than triple non-veterans, the study found.
