Very excited about the target : Drilling planned for anomaly east of Flin Flon

“I am very excited about the target on Albert’s Lake,” says Kelly Gilmore, an award-winning geologist, former chief exploration geologist for Hudbay and current Copper Reef board member. “It is very rare these days, after years of exploration in a mature mining camp, that you find a target like this one. It shares all the geophysical characteristics that known copper-zinc mines and mineral deposits typically have, and it is located in exceptionally good geology.” Stephen Masson, president and CEO of the Flin Flon-based Copper Reef, refers to the find as “a huge anomaly.” “This is the kind of target that is exciting,” he adds. “This is the kind of target we live for, to drill something like this, because it has such a high chance of success. Does it have a perfect chance of success? Absolutely it doesn’t. Everything is risky.”

$2 million in mine exploration funds coming from federal, Saskatchewan governments

Under the program, Saskatchewan’s provincial government will spend $1 million on a geophysical survey of the area around Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach. A budget proposal for other parts of the project is in the planning stages. The surveying will be done jointly by the Geological Survey of Manitoba and the Geological Survey of Canada and Natural Resources Canada. Work on the project is expected to begin before early March. Along with the aerial survey, both the provincial and federal governments will begin an incentive program for junior mining companies undergoing exploration in northern Saskatchewan. “The strategy will include both a geoscience component and an incentive program targeted at junior companies who are exploring for base metals, precious metals and diamonds in a specified region of high mineral potential,” read a statement from a spokesperson from the Saskatchewan Ministry of Economy.
