Coffee and Conversation: The Amish Country trip was fun

Coffee & Conversation: Special thanks to livestock owners

Coffee & Conversation: Special thanks to livestock owners Victoria Hansen Special to The Journal-Standard Today, I found myself saying how thankful I was for the 14-degree temperature day, sun shining and the wind being at a minimum. The last few weeks really have tested the winter-loving part of me. The cold gloomy days make winter trudge on like maple syrup running up hill in January. I often find myself thinking of our livestock farmers on my drive to the office in the morning. I think about how thankful I am for these individuals who get up day after day to care for their livestock. They wake up early to ensure the animals have water to drink, plenty of feed and shelter. Winter should remind us all how much those who care for animals go the extra mile. It would be easier to stay inside where it s warm, but they have made a commitment to their farms to provide top-notch care no matter the weather. So, here is a special thank you to those who care for livestock.

Coffee and Conversation: Farmers are innovators

Coffee and Conversation: Farmers are innovators Victoria Hansen Special to The Journal-Standard Just like other professions for farmers, growing and raising our food means improving. It means discovering ways to do things better and finding solutions to complex problems. Farmers make decisions every day that advance their methods for raising animals and growing crops. Innovation on the farm such as self-steering equipment, field mapping drones, and animal health monitors means less environmental impacts, safer food and a healthier world. In Illinois, farmers use the latest in science and technology to advance the ways they grow and raise food that is better for you and our world.
